| To maintain product integrity and avoid cross-contamination, FDA validation protocol for tank washing provides guidelines for duration and frequency of cleaning cycles, impact, cleaning chemicals and liquid temperatures. All of these factors are better controlled, more reliable and more repeatable with automated tank cleaning. By decreasing production downtime and labor costs, automated tank cleaning or CIP systems can save up to $50,000 per tank annually compared to costs for manual cleaning.

Sanitary Features Meet 3A CIP Standards
With sanitary pin connections and self-draining surfaces, the 28500R tank wash nozzle, meets 3A standards for clean-in-place applications. Rotational velocity varies with fluid pressure. The 41800E tank wash nozzle also meets 3A standards for CIP but maintains constant rotational speed. Both are excellent for rinsing and cleaning medium-sized tanks. Fixed Spray Balls are commonly used in CIP systems because they have no moving parts and require minimal maintenance. Due to their low impact and ability to withstand harsh chemicals, they are best-suited for final rinse or sanitation applications.
Reduce Water and Chemical Use with High-Impact Cleaning
The AA190 Tank Washer uses two to four high-pressure, solid-stream nozzles rotating on a motor-driven gear hub to aggressively clean stubborn residues from tanks up to 80 ft. in diameter.

Atomization, the process of generating drops, is the most critical step in the spray drying process. The biggest challenges in tablet coating are caused by the highly-viscous nature of the coatings. Bearding, for example, is the buildup of dried coating on the nozzle, and it causes many tablet coaters to shut down their operation for cleaning as often as every 10 minutes — a time consuming and expensive production delay.

| Measuring drop size and velocity is important in many applications but is critical in gas cooling. The catalyst for change is carried within the drop and will affect system performance. In addition to Sauter Mean Diameter data, Dmax data should be evaluated because of its impact on wetting. It is important that you obtain accurate information and understand how that data was collected. There are different ways to collect and record drop size data but the industry-preferred guideline is ASTM Standard E799. While ASTM E799 permits Dmax to make up as much as 1% of the volume, all of our measurements keep Dmax at 0.20% of the volume. This conservative measurement method means we can precisely predict spray system performance. As you are evaluating nozzle options, be sure to ask about the drop size measurement techniques. Many manufacturers provide only imprecise theoretical information.

FloMax® Air Atomizing Nozzles Offer Superior Performance
All air atomizing nozzles are not alike. In fact, very few are suitable for use in gas conditioning. High efficiency nozzles offer tight control of drop size and spray coverage. The goal is to minimize Dmax and achieve a finely-atomized spray with D32 less than 100 microns at 10 gpm (37.8 l/min). A multi-stage atomization process must be used to achieve this very small drop size. The patented three-stage atomization process used by FloMax Air Atomizing nozzle is extremely air efficient and is the primary reason why it is the preferred nozzle for gas conditioning.
Unlike competitive nozzles using single-step atomization, FloMax nozzles produce a D32 drop size that is 34% smaller utilizing 20% less air than competitive nozzles. [Flow rate of 10 gpm (37.8 l/min)]

Maintaining a Hydraulic System? Consider Flowback Nozzles
| In applications where residence time for complete evaporation is not critical, our Flowback hydraulic nozzle system can help you improve performance. Constant pressure is applied to the nozzle at all times to produce a consistent drop size. When the desired gas temperature is reached and a reduction in volume is called for, a valve is adjusted to alter the amount of fluid leaving the nozzle. The excess fluid is allowed to “flow back” through the center orifice of the nozzle body. The nozzle offers a 10:1 turndown ratio to accommodate variations in gas temperature or volume.
Flowback nozzles feature a simple two-piece design for easy installation and maintenance. Competitive lances utilize a bellows design that is easily damaged during operation or maintenance. This results in internal leaking, poor atomization and wetting. These lances require special tools for installation and maintenance. Our Flowback nozzles are often selected to replace competitive nozzles in existing systems because of the advantages offered in installation and maintenance.
Our Flowback line is available with the largest selection of nozzle capacities. Sizes range from 1.2 to 45 gpm (4.5 to 170.3 l/min) at 600 psi (41.4 bar).

Spray Nozzles Used in Rinsing and Drying Processes
A large automotive assembly plant was installing a new truck cab line. During the design of the line, plant engineers experimented with everything from a manually operated line using hoses and wands, to blow-off nozzles but were struggling to find a solution. The application required a rinsing and drying process that would contribute to overall finish quality. but irregular surfaces and rolled steel areas on the truck cabs posed a real challenge.
The engineers knew they needed spray nozzles but they weren’t sure which ones to use and how to install them to reach all the nooks and crannies on the truck cab. The solution we recommended included stalling 84 VeeJet® nozzles on five rinsing arches with adjustable ball fittings. These fittings provide adjustable positioning of spray nozzles for more exact control of the spray direction. Based on quality control inspections, the nozzles could be easily calibrated with the simple turn of a screw head.
Deionized water is used in the rinsing process, so stainless steel nozzles were specified and now deliver from 100 to 150 psi (7 bar to 10 bar) of pressure along the five rinsing arches.
For drying, we recommended the construction of two arches equipped with 70 WindJet® nozzles. The WindJet nozzles use existing plant air and provide quick drying with very efficient use of compressed air. In addition, our 727 WindJet nozzles met OSHA’s requirements for sound levels since workers are in close proximity to the nozzles. |

Retractable Tank Washer (RTW)
RTW Overview:
